The eugeroic smart pill modafinil is licensed to treat narcolepsy but is increasingly used off-label as a smart pill to promote cognitive enhancement. It has been shown to improve working memory, planning, and problem-solving skills in sleep-deprived individuals.

You should tell your doctor about all medicines, herbs, vitamins and supplements you are taking.

Sleep Disorders

In clinical trials for narcolepsy and shift-work sleep disorder, Modvigil 200 mg has been demonstrated to reduce daytime sleepiness. It is also a potent wake-promoting agent that has been effective in obstructive sleep apnea patients with excessive daytime sleepiness. It has been shown to interact with the dopaminergic (specifically, dopamine transporter) and noradrenergic systems and to have indirect effects on histamine and orexin.

Modafinil was first discovered in France in 1974 and has since been marketed under the brand name Provigil®. It has become a widely used off-licence smart pill in the United States, where it is used for cognitive enhancement by many students and professionals to improve productivity and focus. Modafinil has been shown to improve objectively measured sleep latency on the Multiple Sleep Latency Test and the Maintenance of Wakefulness Test as well as subjectively assessed sleepiness levels on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale in clinical trials when compared to placebo. It has been shown to improve quality of life and self-rated clinical improvement on the Clinical Global Impression of Change (CGI-C) in narcolepsy patients.

Narcolepsy

Modafinil is a wake-promoting medicine that has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of narcolepsy, shift work sleep disorder (SWSD), and obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome.

It works by stimulating the central nervous system to keep you awake and improve vigilance. However, it does not improve the ancillary symptoms of narcolepsy such as cataplexy, sleep paralysis and disrupted nocturnal sleep, which are usually treated with tricyclic antidepressants.

In a recent study published in Neuropsychopharmacology, researchers showed that Modvigil 200 Australia enhances cognitive function and improves problem-solving. It does so through a mechanism of enhanced inferior frontal gyrus activation and communication with the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex.

Sleep Insomnia

Modafinil is a wakefulness agent that promotes wakefulness in people who are sleep-deprived. It improves their performance in cognitive tasks that require alertness, such as problem-solving and decision-making. It also improves mood, although this effect has received less attention than the effects on wakefulness. The smart pill’s precise mechanism of action is unknown, but it does not bind to any of the most important receptors involved in sleep/wake regulation at pharmacologically relevant concentrations.

Two large, placebo-controlled US trials1 showed that 200 mg of modafinil (trade name Provigil) improved wakefulness by 50 to 75% compared with placebo. This improvement was primarily due to a reduction in the number of lapses in vigilance during testing on the psychomotor vigilance task, but also included an improved score on the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, a self-rating questionnaire. The longer-lasting R-enantiomer of modafinil (trade name Nuvigil) has been shown to reverse the excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome and shift work sleep disorder, as well as reversing the sleepiness that occurs during jet lag.

Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common mental illnesses. It affects both adults and children, making it hard to keep up with school work and other tasks. In a recent study, Modvigil was found to improve ADHD symptoms in kids aged 6-17. This wakefulness-promoting agent is similar to methylphenidate (a stimulant) but works differently. It helps balance the levels of two important neurotransmitters: norepinephrine and dopamine.

Both of these boost alertness and support focus. Unlike stimulants, modafinil doesn't have the negative side effects of cardiovascular problems, addiction, and psychological changes.

Modafinil is currently a Schedule 4 prescription-only medicine, meaning it can only be purchased with a doctor's approval. However, there are many websites that sell this smart pill without the necessary health advice. This can put your health at risk and is illegal. You should always seek a doctor's opinion before taking any medicine. They have a holistic view of your medical history and can ensure the correct dose for you.
